In 2014, we reduced and downsized until all our possessions could each fit into 2 suitcases & 2 carry-ons, ready for the move from Canada to Nepal.
There is one thing that helped us a lot. It is definitely the biggest tip for moving abroad and simplifying your stuff. Here it is: instead of going through your possessions and choosing what comes and what goes, try the following instead. Go somewhere like a coffee shop away from all your stuff in a calm environment and list 1) what you need to bring, 2) what you should bring if you can, and 3) what things you want to bring.
First off, being away from your stuff when you’re making your packing list will help you to think more objectively and be more realistic about what’s important. Secondly, separating all your possessions into these three main categories will be of great help when actually packing your bags.
